October 15, 2025 – Cables used in theater and stage environments must deliver high performance under demanding conditions. Tight spaces, frequent movement, and sharp bending radii are common challenges—and any technical failure can bring a performance to a halt. To meet these needs, igus® has developed a new series of simple-colored, highly flexible chainflex® cables designed specifically for stage applications. The company will showcase this innovation, along with other new products, at the SPS trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany (Hall 4, Booth 310).
For over 30 years, igus has specialized in designing flexible cables for use in energy chains across industries—from clean rooms and automotive plants to crane systems and train wash stations. These cables are built to last and tailored to meet specific environmental and mechanical demands. Now, igus is expanding into the stage technology market.
“Cables in stage and theater technology must be able to move precisely and reliably, often under difficult spatial conditions. Furthermore, visual compatibility plays a crucial role,” says Katharina Wielpütz, Business Development Manager for chainflex cables at igus. The new cables are not only durable and flexible but also feature a black outer jacket that blends seamlessly into the background, maintaining the professional and unobtrusive look required in stage settings.
Reliable and Discreet
Until now, stage technicians often had to choose from industrial cable solutions that didn’t fully meet the aesthetic or mechanical needs of theater environments. “With our new chainflex series CFSPECIAL.381, we are fulfilling our customers’ wishes for cables that function reliably during movement, are cost-effective, and at the same time do not obstruct the view,” Wielpütz adds.
The CFSPECIAL.381 series includes three bus cables: CAT6, CAT7, and DMX. With this addition, the chainflex product line now includes over 1,350 cable types. This growth is supported by igus’s extensive in-house testing, conducted in a 5,500-square-meter lab where over two billion test cycles are performed annually. As a result, igus is the only manufacturer worldwide to offer a four-year warranty on its cables.
igus also provides cables as ready-to-connect solutions—either as readycable® or integrated into energy chains as readychain®. For stage-specific needs, igus offers additional products like the e-spool theater spring reel, zigzag energy chain system, and e-spool microphone.

The launch of the new stage cables marks just the beginning.
